View Full Version : McCann family turning to psychics?

Julia

Last week's Sunday People claimed that the McCann family has been reduced to asking Colin Fry and Gordon Smith for help in finding Madeleine. If this is the case (and it hasn't been mentioned on the official findmadeleine.com site) I think we should all get in touch and make our feelings known. It might be a good idea to mention Ireland's very own Sarah Delamere Hurding while we're at it...

Said it in this mornings metro too. No psychics mentioned by name. It said that friends of the fmaily were pressureing them to accept offers of psychic help.

Perhaps Colin will use his 'psychic trumpet' :cheesy:

It's really annoying that these useless charlatans have banged on about this issue so long that they've managed to get a foot in the door with the family.

Mind you, could just be the crap papers making stuff up. First they imagine it then it becomes real. Or something.

Someone should point them to Kelly's blog:

http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/

And in particular her section on psychics:

http://voice4themissing.blogspot.com/2006/03/30606-pmp-introduction-to-psychics-and.html

There is so much good information there, provided by people who have gone through the same thing, including family pressure to clutch at such straws. No good comes of bringing in such predators.

Apparently the McCanns have made their own decision about who they are going to consult. I am sure you will have heard of this person before, and I hope that everything is kept out of the public eye, for the sake of all involved. So much for 'intruding into others' lives'.

I'm sure a PR savvy guy like Gordon Smith will make sure he comes out of this in a good light. There'll be no information at all coming out unless he solves the case with his psychic powers!

So, I doubt we'll here much from Gordon.

I found it interesting that Diane Lazarus and Ben Murphy, who went to Portugal after about 10 days, have remained silent so far.

I rather thought the tactic would be to keep silent and then if/when the case is solved they would claim to have helped but kept quiet so as not to jeopardize the case.

There's still time, of course.

As for PR, wouldn't you have one with all these sharks around who make a living of criticising others?

Why?
Wouldn't you want any psychic involvement to be checked and confirmed?

So much for 'intruding into others' lives'.

I am confused about this statement. Did you read any of Kelly's blog? Anyone unqualified to further the search for this child is intruding, whether asked or not.

But not anything substantial which will actually help though. So what is the point.

I bet if he does get involved, someone will comment that his input was 'interesting', but not further help than that. A polite way of saying useless.

He is so protective of his image, that I'm sure he is desperate to not get dragged into this case. So far he has been clever not to open himself up to too much scrutiny by being very careful in how he is portrayed.

In fact, it seems to be his followers who are desperate to offer his services - how ironic would it be if his downfall was caused by those who idolise him most.

1.to thrust or bring in without invitation, permission, or welcome
4.to thrust oneself without permission or welcome: to intrude upon their privacy.

In the sense of qualification, mediums are unqualified. Sadly, nobody is qualified to test them either.

He could find himself in a very tricky situation!

If he doesn't help if he's asked, people, including his followers, are going to wonder why.

If he does get dragged into it against his will then they'll have to ask themselves why his magical powers have failed.

I'd really like to see a high-profile media psychic put on the spot with this case. Then we'd really see the extent of their abilities.

You can always trust everything you read in the Daily Star....can't you?

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/16962/Maddie-I-ll-find-body-in-days/

Madeleine McCann’s parents have admitted they plan to use a psychic in their quest to find their daughter.

They have approached Gordon Smith, dubbed the Psychic Barber, for help in solving the mystery.

Mr Smith last night revealed he could help find the missing four-year-old within days.

He said: “I have done private sittings for many people for lost children or missing relatives.

“The first thing I would usually do would be to establish whether Madeleine is dead or whether she is still here.

“I have offered my help for free. I never charge for private readings. I’ve already assured them I will say nothing to the press.

“The approach came from their family via my publisher. I said: ‘Of course.’ For it to work I need to sit with her closest relatives, who would be her parents.

“Before I sit down with them I’d have to say that it’s a possibility that nothing might happen. But I’d love to help the family in any way I can.”

The devout Catholic couple are reading up on the spirit world on the recommendation of one of Gerry’s Scottish relatives. Smith, 45, from Glasgow, has written a number of books on the subject including Stories From The Other Side, Through My Eyes and Spirit Messenger.

A family pal said: “Gerry and Kate are both logical people and they are also devout Catholics so it would seem to go against everything they believe in.

“But it is not being entirely ruled out. Kate and Gerry are desperate for help and they will consider any viable information.

“A psychic has been recommended and they don’t want to dismiss anything that may help them in their search.”

They have been contacted by 1,000 psychics and mediums since she disappeared on May 3.
One named a specific farm in Spain where Madeleine was being held and part of a car’s registration number.

Another rang in claiming to know the flight and seat number where they “saw” the little girl.

A third claimed to have the exact co-ordinates for her on a Google Earth satellite map.

The pal added: “They have felt compelled to pass on around 15% of this information. Some are as vague as visions of her in the clouds or on a boat.

“But others have been very detailed giving specific details.”

Police could not dismiss the visions in case one of the mediums turned out be the abductor.

The McCanns are planning to break their silence over their daughter’s disappearance in a series of TV interviews to be broadcast in Portugal and Spain.

While Portugal’s strict secrecy laws bar them from discussing evidence, their lawyers believe they can make fresh public appeals to help find her.

They plan to put her photo on supermarket shopping trolleys.

Thank you, and I agree. This blog is immensely important, and should be read by anyone with the slightest interest in understanding what a family goes through when a loved one goes missing.

Beforehand, of course. Once the methodology, equipment and testing staff have all been suitably validated also.

I agree. So, if a medium hasn't proved their ability, they should keep out of these cases.

In the sense of qualification, mediums are unqualified. Sadly, nobody is qualified to test them either.

The fact that none have passed tests performed on them, or they refuse testing, does not mean no one is qualified to test them. I learned from preparing to be tested where the real abilities lie. I just wish more 'psychics' had the ethical strength to do the same.

You can always trust everything you read in the Daily Star....can't you?

Clarence Mitchell made a statement on GMTV this morning that the MacCanns had not approached any Psychic asking for help.

He also mentioned that they'd been approached by thousands of psychics some offering vague and uselfess information and some offeringormation whihc could be followed up on such as locations and car licence plate number. He said that all credible information was passed on to the police.

The remaining question is what is their subjective definition of "credible" by association he seemed to imply that is there were hard facts which could be checked it was "credible"

I don't believe the Mc Canns will consult a psychic...but Aunt Philomena might...

On SKY two days before this hit the papers I was wondering why they had NOT consulted a reputable psychic yet (I suggested Gordon)...

It made me wonder if the Mc cann PR team were reading the psychic thread on SKY

Either that or it was a prediction

The reality is though...they won't go to him...I believe it was pure PR

You really need to ask? If someone believes they have superpowers, I think it's pretty obvious that the world revolves around them. Or at least, they must think it does.

At the risk of derailing this thread, I won't say any more, but the link between 'wanting to be special' and 'having psychic powers' is clear.

I think there's definitely something in that observation on a general scale as well as in this particular case. Throughout history, the mystic and psychic and spiritual have always had strongly theatrical overtones. The ancient greek word "theatron" means "place where the Gods appear". Human nature doesn't change much and that particular cultural meme replicates well...

It would also be interesting to look at the links between dissociation and narcissm in the context of paranormal believers and "paranormal professionals".

Failed musician??? Strange thought!!!

Never been a performer to my knowledge; and not about to start now....I don't like the concept of psychic performing...

(I would NEVER do a stage show except perhaps for a speech nor would I get involved with a flamboyant programme on this subject....I just don't think it translates well for public viewing...I perfer Derren Browns' approach to it all to be honest)

The Mc Canns won't go to Gordon...they don't need to....

Seriously. Sorry it is not a lot to go on! No green fields, or house names.

While not wanting to reduce my credibility on this forum...if I ever had any what with my huffing ghostie....:cheesy: can we note this prediction?

I have to add I sincerely hope the poor wee toot is found safe and well. But I did have a very realistic dream about her in a sewer. I have never had any other predictive dreams. And probably this one isn't either...just my bored mind working overtime.

I have not seen a single shred of evidence to support your psychic ability sarah. Your persistance that you have some magical ability to forsee the future is simply delusional. The problem is you actually know you are/were/will be wrong and you try to edit posts or reinterpret "what you ACTUALLY meant", surely this only serves to prove you are aware of your mistakes and are trying to do some serious damage control to preserve your non existant image.

I would suggest that if you truely want to help people, the imagination path is not perhaps the best way to achieve this. I could suggest volunteering at a shelter/soup kitchen but I doubt that would gain you the fame you seemingly crave. It would however allow you to help people in a real and meaningful way.

I don't know where you got that idea...Just because my work is in the public eye and I know some well known people doesn't mean I crave fame myself I am actually a private person (once again I have something projected onto me which is untrue)

Yes you are correct We havent seen a shred of psychic evidence because in 130 years of research there has been no evidence of it, especially when that "evidence" is subjected to testing. Sceptics are the most "unblinkered" people you will ever meet, they try to fully comprehend a subject to see if its possible, they dont just go with popular ideas or trends. It is true though that sceptics have an agenda, that agenda however is simply factual truth and nothing else. If you have a problem with the truth then you are a lost cause.

I do not crave fame; Quite the opposite actually...I am 'The Reluctant Psychic

You are a reluctant "psychic" with a self promoting website, and take every opportunity to name drop so you can associate yourself with famous people. Yes I can see your point. ::)

Your claim of being a psychic if true would rely on any number of physical properties unknown to science, this is by definition "magical" because it has no known method of working yet it is said to be true. You are completely wrong about just how easy it is to dismiss what you do, as you have never provided any proof of your claims. To paraphrase one particularly annoyed bloke "put up, or shut up".
