"In Hong Kong 838 citizens have called for the Bible to carry a label warning that it contains "indecent content" for verses referring to rape, violence, cannibalism and incest. If the complaints, registered with Hong Kong's Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority, are upheld, the Bible will be sold only to those over eighteen years old."

Too much joy in the smites and too little in the begats in that bloody book.
Still, couldn't they just sort of put it on the top shelf? And purse their lips when the spotty wee boys buy it?

Wonder how they feel about travelling to other countries where the Bible is available for free in nearly every hotel bedside nook? Perhaps they should be supported in their venture to question the suitability of it.
I ponder if Penthouse has ever considered doing their own version. The pop-up zero gravity edition... with all the lurid bits with video links...

Thanks!
Seems pretty petty to me – an example of radical atheists making arses out of themselves. The bible hardly contains pages and pages of PORN…. even as titillation for the” spotty wee boys” it’s dull.

Reminds me of an old schoolmate who used to hold Bibles upside down to see if they fell open at the " good bits".

I seems to me that initially it wasn't a protest against the bible but a protest against the obscenity laws that marked the "Student Press" as adults only. Us radical atheists came later. I somehow doubt hat the Student Press is pages and pages of PORN or suitable titilation for spotty wee boys. However I am somewhat alermed at the nature of the ruling that differentiates between the bible (safe for minors) and the student press (not safe for minors)
"The Bible is a religious text which is part of civilisation. It has been passed from generation to generation," the Television and Licensing Authority (TELA) ruled last night.
The same could be said of Slavery. It is my strong conviction that just because something is traditional doesn't put it beyond criticism.
Obviously I never expected the complaint to achieve its obvectives even in a country which is not predominantly christian. (Only 10% According to the CIA world factbook (https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/hk.html)) However I'm glad the news highlights how much genocide, violence and sexual oppression is contained within the old testament.
Judges 19 is a good example. Not great for titlation but I would guess it equal to any of the content from the Student Press that deems if unfit for minors.

"If there is rape mentioned in the Bible, it doesn’t mean it encourages those activities," said Rev Wu Chi-wai.
This is quite crrect but for two minor flaws:
1) Relavency to the law in question. The law is about obscence publications the is no requiremtns for either The Student Press or the Bible to be encouraging the activities the activities they mention in order for them to be labelled obscene.
2) Relavency to the Bible. There is no doubt that in additon to merely mentioning rape in the Bible, God specificatlly sanctions Rape. In Deuteronomy 21 and Numbers 31

The Bible found no fault with Abraham and Isaac for knowingly giving their wives to other men for sexual use. (Genesis 12:11-16 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&passage=Genesis+12:11-16&search=&showxref=yep&showfn=yep); Genesis 26:7-10 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Genesis+26%3A7-10).) In fact, the Bible praised Lot and Ephremite for offering their daughters to be raped, so this fate would not befall their male guests. (Genesis 19:1-8 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Genesis+19%3A1-8); Judges 19:22-24 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Judges+19%3A22-24).) If a man raped a virgin who was not engaged to be married, his "punishment" was to pay a fine and marry her. (Exodus 22:16 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Exodus+22%3A16).) As for female servants, male masters could legally rape them. (Exodus 21:7-11 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Exodus+21%3A7-11); Leviticus 19:20-22 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Leviticus+19%3A20-22); Deuteronomy 21:10-14 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Deuteronomy+21%3A10-14).) The Bible even shows such holy men as Abraham and Jacob forcing sex on their female slaves (Genesis 16:1-2 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Genesis+16%3A1-2), Genesis 30:9-10 (http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?version=NIV&passage=Genesis+30%3A9-10).)
